Well, we're off. Our plan to leave by 12:30pm turned out to be a little far fetched as we cleaned and packed up our last college apartment (Caroline wants to make sure that we point out that she was ready before 12:30pm). Nevertheless, we were on the road by 3:30pm, after taking the necessary "goodbye Furman" photos. Even after Rachael's superb packing skills, we found ourselves in rather cramped quarters. Hopefully, we can consolidate our luggage during our time in Louisville and gain a little more leg room. One thing that we will NOT be getting rid of are our mystery presents from Caroline's dad and brother. Each day we will open a new present based on the clues provided. Today, we opened the present described by clue #1. We found four silver necklaces, each with a charm and message: Luck, Explore, Carpe Diem, and Karma. They're pretty awesome and it was so nice of them to make us something that we can look forward to on those long, hard stretches of highway. Thanks!!
Yes, our first stop- LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY! We arrived around 9:45pm to the home of Caroline Rankin Wells, beloved Furman alum and Chi Omega sister. Of course, we must fill you all in on some of the side adventures of our first road exposure. We've decided to take picture at every state line sign (21 states), which can be quite an exhilirating experience when those signs just seem to pop up out of nowhere. At our first stop, North Carolina, Casey was so proud that she had discovered and successfully operated the self-timer on her camera to take a picture of the entire group. She fashioned a tri-pod from her stationary box on top of the car, successfully capturing our first step out of SC. This all took a quick downturn when, after about three minutes down the road, Casey realized that she left the box on top of the car and her stationary was gone forever. Guess we'll have to pick up some thank you notes at a Wal-Mart along the way..
So- sweet and short. We've got a fantastic day planned in Louisville tomorrow and can't wait to share tons of new, interesting factoids. We'll leave you with a few things we've learned so far
1) Farting out a car window is not as easy/effective as one might hope (thanks to Caroline for being our guinea pig)
2) Snuggies serve quite nicely for varying car temperature preferences (thanks Jacqui and Sumeen)
3) Always know what side your gas tank is on before pulling into the station.
I left you guys another comment, but I don't see it so...I am so glad you guys are writing a blog during your trip! What a great idea! LMAO at
