Getting Lucky in Kentucky!

HOWDY FRIENDS!!!!

Today was our first full day of road trip tomfoolery, and no hour could have been better spent.

We started off with a tour of Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby Museum. The lady working at the front desk about had an anneurism when she discovered that we were from Furman. THAT'S WHERE HER GOD DAUGHTER GOES TO SCHOOL OH MY GOSH THE WORLD IS SO SMALL! So, she wrote down all of our names, took a picture with all of us, and proceeded to tell us all about the trips she'd taken with her god daughter/god daughter's siblings.

Rachael found her soulmate in a horse named Donerail who won with odds 99 to 1 somewhere near the beginning of the 20th century. We watched a video about the history of the derby and what kind of work goes into producing such a large-scale sporting event. The screens looped around the entire room and made our learning experience a truly wonderful visual stimulation. WOW! We ALSO learned that Secretariat won the triple crown because his heart was 22 pounds. THAT IS 3 TIMES THE SIZE OF A NORMAL HORSE HEART. that is cray cray, how could this be?

Then we met up with Cwells to eat at her dad's restaurant, WW Cousins. MMMM BOY! That was some good ole hamburglar if we did ever have one...also rated as the best burger in Kentucky! Then Cwells joined us for the rest of the day in which we toured the Louisville Slugger museum where we swung Mickey Mantle's baseball bat and received miniature bats as door prizes! We must say that after watching videos of bat making/baseball playing for an hour it was VERY difficult to resist banging that bat against all surfaces upon leaving the vicinity. However, our bats will come in handy when somebody gets out of line in the car. Then we wandered around the city... which is large yet welcoming!

Later we met up with Harrison Welch and Anna Dauer (former Furman friends) at Tumbleweed, a mexican restaurant on the Ohio river that served 99 cent margaritas!!! The reunion was magnificent, and some good ole memory-sharin/ life updating occurred.

We have agreed as a group how nice it is to have everyday jam packed immediately after graduation... it has kept our emotions at bay after graduation (aka ending a MAJOR part of our lives that we all don't QUITE know if we're ok with yet). Oh yeah, and we forgot to mention that we found the most breathtakingly beautiful mullet upon God's green earth today.
